PRESCHOOL FACULTY

Mrs. Shoshie Strassman (Morah Shoshie) will be teaching the younger toddler class at TDSD. Morah Shoshie has been teaching preschool for five years, both in New York and now in Dallas. Her smile and warmth bring fun and happiness into every classroom. Morah Shoshie puts a lot a lot of energy and focus on child development in order to meet the different stages of the young children she teaches. She believes in hands on learning and really enjoys getting messy with her class while they learn new things.

Mrs Natali Hoage (Morah Natali) will be teaching our new Toddler class. She was part of our Toddler program last year and is very excited to be leading a Toddler class as part of the Toddler team. Morah Natali attended Tel Aviv University in Israel and went on to study Child Development at Miramar College in San Diego, California.

Mrs. Bracha Stolov (Morah Bracha) teaches the older Toddler class at TDSD. Morah Bracha has been working with children for 18 years in various capacities. Morah Bracha’s energy and enthusiasm for teaching is felt by her colleagues, students, and parents. Morah Bracha has been a part of the TDSD preschool for the past eleven years. She has a teaching degree from Bais Yaakov of Midwood and majored in Business Administration at Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College.

Mrs. Miriam Yavner (Morah Miriam)  teaches the younger Nursery class. She was born and raised in Mexico City until her family moved to Texas when she was 10. Mrs. Yavner graduated with honors and a double major from the University of Texas. Her teaching career began in Israel where she lived for 8 years. Her classroom is known for her “sensory” and “musical” approach. She is dedicated to creating a safe, educational, creative and warm program where each child can grow both developmentally and emotionally. Mrs. Yavner (Morah Miriam) is returning for her fourth year at TDSD.

Mrs. Daniella Kosowsky (Morah Daniella) teaches the older Nursery class at Torah Day School. Morah Daniella directed a private preschool program for six years previous to coming to TDSD. Before teaching in Dallas, Morah Daniella taught 3- and 4-year-olds in Memphis, Tennessee. Morah Daniella’s love of science and discovery makes her classroom a place where all children become curious inquisitive learners. Morah Daniella has been a valuable part of the TDSD Preschool since its inception. Morah Daniella has a B.A. in Sociology from Stern College in New York.

Mrs. Patty Goldschmiedt (Morah Patty) teaches a Pre-K class at Torah Day School. Morah Patty previously taught preschool for six years in Dallas, Canada, and Peru. She also taught Spanish in a public school in Minnesota. Morah Patty has brought her love for children and learning to TDSD for many years. Morah Patty has a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota.

Mrs. Chani Tkatch (Morah Chani) joined TDSD’s staff four years ago. Previously she taught in Baltimore, MD, where she ran a 2 year old license day care for 8 years and then worked in Talmudical Academy as an assistant for the 3, 4, and 5 year old class. Morah Chani was instrumental in starting TDSD’s Imagination Station program four years ago and has lead our Jr Toddler class the last two years. Morah Chani is thrilled to be leading a Pre- K class this coming school year. Morah Chani received her teaching certificate from Ateres Bnos Yerushalayim.

 

Judaic Studies Teachers

K-2 Judaic Coordinator: Mrs. Chaya Feigenbaum
Mrs. Feigenbaum has taught Kindergarten at TDSD since the fall of 2003. Previous to TDSD, she taught Judaic studies at Akiba Academy of Dallas for 9 years in Grades 1, 2 & 5 and spent one year teaching Grade 1 Judaic studies in the Yeshiva of Manhattan Beach in NY. Mrs. Feigenbaum has a B.A. in Judaic Studies from Touro College and a Teaching Certificate from Michlalah – Jerusalem College for Women.

Kindergarten: Mrs. Chana Devorah Blitz
Mrs. Blitz has taught Kindergarten at TDSD since the fall of 2003. Previous to TDSD, she was a Pre 1A teacher in Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Blitz has a teaching certificate from Bais Yaakov Intensive Seminary in Brooklyn, NY.

Grade 1: Mrs. Yochana Fried
Mrs. Fried has taught 1st grade at TDSD since the fall of 2003. Previous to TDSD, she taught Grade 1 for 3 years in the Hillel School of Rochester, NY. Mrs. Fried earned a B.A. in History from Touro College and a teaching certificate from Rivka Breuers Teaching Seminary in NY.

Grade 1 and Judaic Resource: Mrs. Shani Fox
Mrs. Shani Fox is a proud alumnus of TDSD. She received a teaching certificate from Bnos Sara seminary in Jerusalem. She attended Maalot and earned a BA in Humanities, and has an M.A. in Special Education from Grand Canyon University. Mrs. Fox has experience working in Special Education classrooms for Cahal (Five Towns N.Y.) as well as in BY of Baltimore.

Grade 2 Girls: Mrs. Miriam Silverman
Mrs. Miriam Silverman was part of our 2nd grade general studies team in 2012-13 and is now the the 2nd grade girls’ Judaic studies teacher. She has a B.A. from Mercy College in New York, and a M.A. in Special Education from Daemen College in Amherst, NY. Previous to TDSD, she worked in various capacities, including special needs, at Ohr Vadas in Monsey, Yeshiva K’tana in Passaic, and in Teaneck, N.J.

Grade 2 Boys: Rabbi Binyomin Stolov
Rabbi Stolov has taught at TDSD since 2003. Previous to TDSD, he taught Judaic Studies at Akiba Academy of Dallas and Darchei Torah of Far Rockaway, NY. Rabbi Stolov has a Masters Degree in Reading from Adelphi University.

 

3 – 8 Girls:

Judaic Studies Coordinator: Mrs. Nechama Katz
Mrs. Katz has taught a variety of classes at TDSD since the fall of 2003. Previous to TDSD she taught middle and high school Judaic courses at Akiba Academy and Mesorah High School in Dallas as well as lower grade Judaic and General Studies subjects in NY. Mrs. Katz has a teaching certificate from Hadar Bais Yaakov Teacher’s Institute in Israel.

Grades 3 and 4: Mrs. Dina Kramer
Mrs. Deena Kramer moved to Dallas this summer and will be teaching 3rd and 4th grade girls. She joins with five years of teaching experience in New York, including working as a teen mentor as well as in Special Education classrooms. Mrs. Kramer has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison University, and an M.A. in Special Education from University of North Dakota. She also has intensive Kriya (Hebrew reading) training.

Grades 5 and 7: Mrs Aliza Shmueli
Mrs. Shmueli moved to Dallas this summer and will be teaching 5th and 7th grade girls. She comes with nine years of teaching experience in grades four through high school. Mrs. Shmueli has a B.A in Liberal Arts from Exelcior College, an M.A in Special Education from Daemen College, as well as a certificate in computer programming from Cope Institute.

Grade 6: Mrs. Jenny Quinn
Mrs.Quinn is excited to return to TDSD as the 6th grade Morah for all Judaic subjects. Prior to moving to Dallas in 2010, Mrs. Quinn taught and tutored at Neve Yerushalayim and Michlelet Esther in Jerusalem. She has a B.A. From Thomas Edison State College and trained in the Moreshet Institute in Jerusalem.

Grade 8: Mrs. Batya Epstein
Some TDSD graduates fondly remember Mrs. Epstein from the school’s first year, and she is excited to return in 2013-14. Previous to TDSD, Mrs. Epstein taught middle school Judaic studies for nine years at Akiba Academy. She also taught for more than six years at Mesorah High School. Mrs. Epstein has a B.A. in English from Queens College in New York, as well as a teaching certificate from Michlahah, Jerusalem College for Women.

 

3-8 Judaic Studies Boys:

Grade 3 & 4 Boys: Rabbi Menachem Ziemba
Rabbi Ziemba has been teaching at TDSD since the fall of 2007. Previous to TDSD, he taught for four years at the United Hebrew Institute in Kingston, NY. He has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from SUNY Empire State College and a Bachelors of Talmudic Law from Mirrer Yeshiva Central Institute in NY.

Grade 6 Boys: Rabbi Mordechai Shmueli
Rabbi Shmueli joins TDSD this year as a 6th grade Rebbe. He has been teaching Gemara and Halacha for the past five years in Yeshiva Yam HaTorah in Bayswater, NY. Rabbi Shmueli received Rabbinical Ordination from Rabbi Moshe Heineman, earned a Second Talmud Graduate Degree from Yeshiva Zichron Aryeh in Cedarhurst, NY and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Touro College in Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, he participated in the Torah U’Mesorah School of Jewish Education Teacher Training Program.

Grade 5 and 7: Rabbi Schneur Silverman
Rabbi Silverman taught 7th grade Gemara at TDSD beginning at Pesach last year, and will continue next year to teach all 7th grade Judaic subjects to boys. He has been part of the Dallas Area Torah Association, and tutored middle school boys for the past two years, including managing a weekly learning session for TDSD students. He learned at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem and Beis Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, and is a graduate of the Ner Le’elef program.

Grade 5 and 8: Rabbi Noach Burr
Rabbi Burr has taught Judaic classes at TDSD since the fall of 2007. Previous to TDSD, he taught middle and high school Judaic courses for 7 years at the Columbus Torah Academy in Columbus, OH. Rabbi Burr earned both a Bachelors of Talmudic Law and a Masters of Talmudic Law from Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore, MD. In addition he participated in the Machon Teachers Institute program, which included course work in Teaching Methodology and Educational Psychology.

GENERAL STUDIES TEACHERS

K-5 Self-Contained Classrooms
The core subjects of reading, writing, math, history, and science are taught by a single teacher in these early grades.

Kindergarten: Mrs. Melissa Evans
Mrs. Evans is a familiar face at TDSD: last year she taught our 1st grade girls’ general studies class, and previously she tutored students reading and math through Title I. This year she returns to her core training in Kindergarten. Prior to moving to the Dallas area, Mrs. Evans taught Kindergarten and second grade for three years in Atlanta and for two years in New Orleans. Mrs. Evans has a B.S. in Education from the University of Georgia, and is certified to teach grades K-4.

 Grade 1: Mrs. Erin Laizerovich
Mrs. Laizerovich joins TDSD this year with seven years’ experience in various lower grade classrooms, including Kindergarten, Accelerated Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 5. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas, and is certified to teach Early Childhood through grade 8.

Grade 2: Mrs. Donna Oltman
Mrs. Oltman is new to TDSD in 2015, and brings almost 30 years of experience in the classroom. Most recently, she taught grade 3 for 14 years at Levine Academy in Dallas.
She has a B.A. in History and Art History from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and has teacher certification.

K-2 Literacy Specialist: Mrs. Kathleen Austin
Mrs. Austin has taught Kindergarten at TDSD since the fall of 2007. This year she moves to a new role, capitalizing on her training in writing instruction: she will join the 1st and 2nd grade teachers in their classrooms to offer students more “teacher time” in the core areas of reading and writing. Previous to TDSD, Mrs. Austin taught for 14 years in various early elementary grades, in several public and private school settings. Mrs. Austin has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Baylor University, and is certified in Texas to teach all elementary grades.

Grade 3: Mrs. Beverly Edwards
Mrs. Beverly Edwards has taught 3rd grade at TDSD since the fall of 2004. Previous to TDSD, she taught for five years in a multi-age grade 3-5 classroom at St. James Episcopal School in Dallas, and for ten years as a Special Education resource teacher for grades K-5 in the Midlothian public school district. She has a B.S. with Honors in Elementary and Special Education from Kent State University and is certified to teach Grades 1-8 General and Special Education.

Grades 4: Mrs. Alex Marques
Mrs. Marques has taught 4th grade at TDSD since the fall of 2011. Previous to TDSD, she taught for six years in both Jewish day schools and public schools. Mrs. Marques has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.A. in Teaching from Brandeis University. She is certified to teach early childhood through grade 8.

Grade 5: Mrs. Jennifer Coulonge
Mrs. Jennifer Coulonge joined the TDSD faculty in the fall of 2013, bringing six years of experience as a middle school language arts teacher and ESL teacher. She has a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, and is certified to teach both language arts and ESL. In addition to her classroom experience, Mrs. Coulonge has worked as a mentor teacher, an instructional leadership team leader, a science fair coordinator, and a grade level chair. This year she will teach all general studies subjects except math to our 5th grade boys and girls. For math, see Mr. Itskovich’s biography below.

Grade 5 Math: Mr. Simcha Itskovich
Mr. Itskovich came to TDSD in 2013 from Brooklyn, N.Y., where he has worked as a 2nd grade general studies teacher in an inclusion classroom (regular education and special education). Mr. Itskovitch has a B.A. in Childhood Education and Psychology from Touro College, as well as a master’s degree in Education and Special Education from Touro. In addition to classroom teaching, he has worked for several years in an Afterschool Youth and Special Needs program with children ranging from preschool through high school. He attended an intensive Singapore Math training in New York this summer, and will be teaching math to all of our 5th graders.

Middle School

Mrs. Rachel Adlerstein
Mrs. Adlerstein has taught middle school language arts at TDSD since the fall of 2009. Previous to TDSD, she taught for six years at Samuel A. Fryer-Yavneh Hebrew Academy in Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Adlerstein earned a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University, as well as teaching certification from Michlala Jerusalem College for Women.

Mrs. Revital Dahan
Mrs. Dahan has taught math at TDSD since the fall of 2005. Previous to TDSD, she taught middle school math in Israel and worked as a resource teacher in both Israel and the U.S. Mrs. Dahan has a bachelor’s degree in education from Gordon College of Haifa, Israel. She is certified to teach Early Childhood-Grade 6, and is also certified in Special Education (K-12).

Mrs. Danielle Roseberry
Mrs. Roseberry joins TDSD in the fall of 2013. While this will be her first classroom experience in middle school, she has taught more than 5,000 students over the past six years at the University of North Texas and at Tarrant County College, and has run programs for middle school students at the Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art. Mrs. Roseberry has a B.A. Cum Laude in Art History from the University of North Texas, and an M.A. in Art History from Tulane University. She has passed certification exams for grades 4-8, and will complete her teaching certification program in the coming school year.

 Mrs. Aliza Rodin
Previous to TDSD, Mrs. Rodin taught general studies for six years in the Yeshiva of Central Queens, in Queens, NY. Mrs. Rodin graduated from Yeshiva University’s Stern College with a major in English Communications and a minor in Judaic Studies and also is a graduate of Michlalah – Jerusalem College for Women. At Torah Day School she has had a variety of assignments since 2012, which include middle school math classes over the past two years. This year, Mrs. Rodin will work with Mrs. Dahan in teaching our 7th and 8th grade girls’ classes, and will also teach 8th grade boys’ regular math and 4th grade girls’ math.

Mrs. Teresa Shobe
Mrs. Shobe has taught science at TDSD since the fall of 2005. Previous to TDSD, she taught middle school language arts for 5 years; was Educational Coordinator and then Dean of Instruction at Dallas Can! Academy for eight years; and coordinated life science programs for K-6 students at the Dallas Arboretum for four years. Mrs. Shobe has a B.A. in English and Sociology from the University of Texas at Arlington and and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas. She has Texas teaching certification for grades 6-12.

Rabbi Mordechai Shmueli

Rabbi Shmueli joins TDSD this year as a 6th grade Rebbe, and will also be teaching Algebra I to our advanced 8th grade boys. Rabbi Shmueli taught algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to high school students in the New York area for seven years. He has as B.S. degree from Touro College in Brooklyn, NY.

 

Specialties

ART: Mrs. Malkie Ozeri

Mrs. Ozeri has taught Art at TDSD since the fall of 2009. She also supervises our Success Maker computer lab. Mrs. Ozeri has a B.A. in Art from Thomas Edison State College and is pursuing a Masters in Art Education through the Corcoran College of Art and Design. She has teaching certification through the Zeidner Institute in Israel, and has passed certification tests for Early Childhood through Grade 8 in Maryland and Virginia.

Physical Education:
Mrs. Devorah Ziemba
has taught P.E. to girls at TDSD since 2007. She is a water safety instructor and certified lifeguard, and has experience with sports at summer camps. Mrs. Ziemba has an Associate Degree/Certified Medical Assistant from Allied Medical College on Forty Fort, PA.

Mrs. Becky Udman once again brings her passion for basketball and for sports in general to teach our 6th-8th grade girls’ PE. Mrs. Udman also coordinates the extracurricular Girls’ Basketball League.

Mr. Simcha Itskovich and Rabbi Binyamin Stolov will teach P.E. to the  boys. Both have extensive experience with these age groups and a commitment to creating a positive, energetic sports experience.
